Sturgeons are special fish from the age and from the appearance. They are an important topic in the Passau region. Because between Jochenstein and Engelhartszell lies the only occurrence of the sterlet in Germany and Austria, which is still preserved by natural reproduction. With a length of up to 1.5 metres, the sterlet is the smallest of the sturgeon species.

Another dimension is the largest of the sturgeon species, the Hausen or Beluge sturgeon. Up to 10 meters of length are proven. It used to swim from the Black Sea to Ulm to lay its eggs. Today in Romania at the first Danube power station Iron Gate is the end for the migrating sturgeons. In the Danube aquarium in Engelhartszell you can see a 1.7 meter long house and other sturgeon species.

The House on the River and the Engelhartszeller Donauwelt have taken up this theme and created a funny trailer on the subject: Unexpectedly anglers meet this giant of the Danube. “It was important for us to show the really impressive size of this fish”, says Karin Wundsam from the municipality of Engelhartszell. The artist Hans-Joachim Blach from Passau created a funny story with appealing graphics and very own characters. “Blach really has great talent! This will enable us to appeal not only to the specialist public, but also to the general public,” says Ralf Braun, director of Haus am Stroms.
